The Dawn Chorus arrived in the post!

This week I had the best post ever, the first copies of my book The Dawn Chorus. Even though I have been making this book for over 2 years it was a wonderful surprise!  Seeing all of the work come together into a physical object and holding it in one piece was very exciting. I loved the bronze finish on the title and the little birds on the spine as well as the textured cover. I feel so lucky to be working with Fiz Osborne and Kayt Bochenski at Bloomsbury who have been fantastic.

It’s going to be available from April 10th  in the UK and is also coming out in French, German, Slovenian and Korean I think.

Another unexpected surprise is that you discover your character’s new name in translation – Peep becomes Piou-Piou in French, and Svit in Slovenian.

I spent the early part of the week working on another project – necessitating making a four poster bed out of toilet rolls and cereal boxes for reference, so it was reassuring to see that I am not going mad and that the “research” will eventually turn into a real book.

  2. Congratulations! The book is adorable, and I’m impressed that it’s automatically coming out in 3-4 languages. That’s quite unusual, isn’t it?
